Peggy Cappy: Yoga for Stress Relief 2-DVD Set

Yoga instructor Peggy Cappy, a perennial favorite of PBS viewers, is back with a new program that demonstrates how to relieve stress using yoga and special breathing techniques. With three out of four Americans regularly experiencing stress, there’s never been a better time to show how Peggy’s simple strategies can easily be incorporated into a daily routine.

According to Peggy, “By stretching, strengthening and balancing the muscles with poses, yoga can also alleviate the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety, which often include tension, tightness and pain.”

Peggy also introduces another technique known to alleviate stress, “laughter yoga.” While it isn’t yoga in the traditional sense, it shares elements of the yogic breath work called pranayama. Oxford University scientists found that laughter, like yoga, releases endorphins in the brain, diminishing not only anxiety but also the perception of pain.

Special guests for the program include pioneering psychologists and researchers, Dr. Richard Brown and Dr. Patricia Gerbarg, MD., co-authors of The Healing Power of Breath, among other noted works. Also featured will be Kripalu’s longtime and popular Executive Chef Jeremy Rock Smith, who will share some smart eating strategies that will have a direct impact on stress levels.
